As you know, the world has taken an unexpected turn with the COVID-19 situation, and we are doing our best to keep abreast of the fast changing situation and act in the best interests of our international students. Yesterday, March 17, the Government of British Columbia declared, “K-12 in-class instruction is suspended indefinitely”. With this in mind, if your country/agency/natural parents want your student(s) to return home, please make new flight arrangements and get those to us. We will make arrangements to get your students to their designated airport (Cranbrook for all students, except Kelowna for Revelstoke students).
We recommend students return home. If natural parents prefer that, for now, we keep their children here with us, we are prepared to do so. As long as host parents can support having the international student in their home, RMISP staff will support this as best and as long as we can, given the challenging circumstances we all find ourselves in currently. If the situation in Canada changes, we will need you to be available to recall your students to your home country, if our capacity becomes impacted negatively by this fast changing situation.
We are not business as usual regarding educational programs, nor should you expect us to be anytime soon. We have been told all students will receive final marks. For our students who are here to graduate, this may entail finishing their current courses in a distance learning delivery model. More on this to come when we have received further information.
Please feel free to reach out to myself or any member of the RMISP team as we, together, get through the challenging days ahead.
Warm regards, Amy
